Oedipus Rex - Sophocles, J.E. Thomas A tragic ancient Greek play about a king that, albeit unwittingly, commits the ultimate sin, plunging his town and himself in utter misery. This is the first time I read this play (and will probably be the last), because you have to be in a certain mood to even begin reading it, and then actually read it cover to cover.I read Antigone in high-school and was intrigued by Antigone's father, but just couldn't find the inclination to read his story. Now I know why. It's dark, depressing, and rather disturbing. Make sure you have an uplifting movie scheduled afterwards (I couldn't read an uplifting book, too much effort).
